Pesky In the Name of Nature
They are back. Fat, obnoxious , pesky flies. When temperature starts to soar during summer, flies breed at an exponential rate here and soon u 'll find their buzzing and lingering around your ears like humming birds next to a flower. Only that u wish that u can smack at them without ending up slapping yourself across the face. Coz they would make u look really kinda stupid, more so when the flies here are not very smart themselves, hahaha. Unlike those back home, they are larger, more rotund n duh duh, as though their brains have not defrosted yet from winter. Hitting flies back in Malaysia is no easy feat, they are quick n alert, and u need to exercise incremental skills to just swat them down in a satisfying 'splat' with rolled up newspapers. And u feel triumphant after that. Flies here, on the other hand, are so slow moving u can literally pointedly squeeze them using one finger, although that is not advisable from hygiene point of view. The point is, they are so cumbersomely slow that u feel that u r taking on the defenseless and feel like a big bully when u try to kill them. So u end up letting them alone.
It is refreshing to see some living creatures within the house for the first time since i came here. Not to say that i don't find flies disgusting, but somehow u feel that having them around feels less sterile, and natural. This one in my room really tickled me, while i was studying and feeling bored out of my skull,it entertained me by ramming itself against the walls again and again, buzzing happily while i wonder if it hurt. Regina and i were also thrilled to find that the nest leftover by our pigeon tenants last time now has new family mo ving in. Momma pigeon has just laid two eggs in the nest, two tiny pearly eggs. I will take a picture of them and post them up tomorrow.
It is quite amazing, the cycle of life demonstrated by our nature. For the first time, i felt the life-giving power of spring, and was so touched to see new leaves sprouting from trees and flowers blooming in full glory after the harshness of winter. And the insects and animals seem to embrace the season through propogation. Back home u always take it for granted that these creatures are always around, so much so u wish u could eradicate them completely at times. But when u feel that they are so intricately bound to nature u actually feel bowed over.
Spring then summer, i guess it is time for me to renew the vigour within myself as well.
