Yuan Xiao Jie
Today is Yuan Xiao Jie, the last day of the celebration of Chinese New Year(the 15th day of the first month). Traditionally it is also the Lantern Festival. In the old times , everyone would go out on this day to admire lanterns and take part in chinese riddles guessing.
People also eat Tang Yuan ( sweet glutinous balls) on this day.
It is also the Chinese version of Valentine's day. In ancient China, an unmarried daughter of a rich tycoon would toss a colourful silk ball from a balcony and marry the man who caught it on this day. Why could have happened if the person who caught it was a ugly beggar? Would the rich lady still honour the promise? I really wonder, hee.
So much for all the traditions. No one here really observes them anymore.
