My First Wedding Invitation!
Yesterday i finally received the wedding invitation from Ruthie. My first wedding invitation card, i was pratically seething in excitement as i retrieved it from the mailbox.
I almost laughed out loud when i saw it. I had expected a wedding invitation to be serious business, but knowing Ruthie the whimsical darling, her invitation was one of her kind. She had written my name in bold sky blue Magic Pen , and she had cut out maple leaves from coloured paper to stick onto the sacred pearl white envelope, and hence the solemn white envelope has turned into a delightful profusion of colours!
Given that the wedding will take place by the sea,on the front of the card itself there are many sea shells, star fish being embossed in a heart shape. Simple and lovely. And in the card the details of the venue, time etc were illustrated of course, but what tickled me most was this poem:
" If on a gift you're pondering
Cash, not kind, would be the thing
Punctuality, we'd appreciate
You'll miss the kissing if you're late"
Golly good heavens, at first me and Liling were racking our brains of what to get her: crockery? ( i hate how the plates from my parents' wedding are still stacking up in great altitudes in the cupboards unused, what a waste.) Vase? Pendant? But now our worries have been eradicated, money, will be the answer! Well, the most unimaginative gift yet the most pragmatic. Now the second problem comes: How much to give??? *scratching head* I wonder if there is a standard market value that people usually give when attending weddings which we, the amateurish wedding attenders, are oblivious to. 100 sounds like a whole number. When shared amongst the three of us going, each one only gives $33.33. Hmm..are we being stingy? (haha, poor students mah...)
Hee..this is the first wedding invitation ahead of many which are to come. it is scary when your friends are already applying for HDB flats and pondering marriage when u are still in school. *gulp* But oh well, i am still very excited over Ruthie's wedding, attending a friend's wedding is so different from those when i used to attend as a kid, it just dawned on me that the quirky gal who used to have a monstrous, loud laughter, who used to play pranks on me has transitioned from an unruly gal to someone's wife, possibly someone's mother in the near future. I can't describe that feeling, part of me can't bear to part with the crazy gal whom I am so familiar with, yet part of me feel happy for the woman she is going to be...
Oh Ruthie, the soon-to-be Mrs Yap...
